At the Belgian Championships in Sint-Lievens-Houtem, Jarne Van de Paar and Vince Gerits crowned themselves new national road champions of the U23 and Elite 2 category respectively.
Vince Gerits (Stageco CT) took the win on Sunday at the Elite 2 race. The 24-year-old was the fastest after 148,5 km or 9 rounds in a sprint of six, and beat Niels de Rooze and Wesley Van Dyck. "This title is the icing on the cake of an already incredible season. People know my watts are quite surreal. Even at the level of the better professionel riders. I hope this national title can open the eyes of some pro teams."
Jarne Van de Paar is the new U23 national champion after he sprinted to victory, crossing the line ahead of Axel De Kinder and Alex Vandenbulcke. For Van de Paar it's a strong comeback after struggling with knee issues and covid-19. "Today I showed that I'm back again. I also wanted to prove that I am capable of more than 'just' sprinting. I wanted people to see that I can also win a hard race. And it's exactly what I did today."
