Wout van Aert took his first World Cup victory of the season and third win in a row. In a snowy Val di Sole Van Aert crossed the finish solo in a unique race that was marked by freezing conditions and a snowy white carpet.

The Belgian finished nearly a minute ahead of Michael Vanthourenhout in second, with Tom Pidcock in third another 40 seconds back. For Van Aert it was his third – convincing – victory of the season after already winning the Superprestige in Boom and Ethias Cross in Essen, which took place only one day ahead of the very first World Cup in Val di Sole.

Wout van Aert:

“The most important thing was to recover quickly after some slippy sliding. It was virtually impossible to stay on the bike the whole race. I think today we saw sport at the highest level. Many spectacular events happened. Today’s race is proof that cyclocross can be organised anywhere in the world. I am happy that I could be part of this great fight. I’m now focusing on a training camp with the team, after which I will continue my cross season in Dendermonde. For now, I can speak of a successful start of this period.”
